Plan the full shoreline, from removal to restoration.

A replacement project should resolve the wall, retained bank, drainage and permitted footprint as one scope.

Can the wall be rebuilt in the same place?

Do not assume the old wall establishes a current right to rebuild. Alabama Power considers seawalls individually and favors riprap and natural stabilization. Ask about the approved alignment and sensitive-resource conditions before selecting a wall system.

Record any change in length, height or material on the sketch. A shoreward or lakeward shift affects more than appearance; it can change excavation, fill, drainage and the review.

What should the work sequence cover?

  • The temporary condition while the old wall is removed.
  • Equipment access and any separately approved use of neighboring land.
  • Protection of docks, utilities, trees and the bank.
  • Foundation, drainage and backfill work before they are covered.
  • End transitions, final grading and complete restoration.

Ask who decides when conditions differ from the drawings. Resolve change-order approval before equipment arrives.

Which records matter after construction?

Retain approved plans, changes, material records, dated progress photos and close-out confirmation. Alabama Power’s residential guidance calls for owner notification when the work is complete.

Compare the final site with the written restoration scope. Keep maintenance instructions with the property records and use the budget planner to track excluded items before signing.
