Find where the water and soil are going.

A depression behind a wall is a symptom. The repair should address the path that lets material escape.

What should the professional investigate?

Show where runoff arrives from the roof, driveway and slope above the wall. Note whether the depression grows after rain, after water-level changes or without an obvious pattern. Photos from the same location can help distinguish a recurring problem from a one-time change.

Ask about joints, outlets, filters, backfill and the condition of the wall itself. A blocked outlet, failed soil-retention detail or moving wall can need different responses.

What should a drainage repair avoid?

Do not redirect water onto a neighboring lot or add fill without reviewing the consequences. The proposal should identify the discharge route, soil-retention detail and restored grades. Alabama Power must approve backfill source and type within its shoreline scope.

For larger disturbance, ask about ADEM stormwater coverage and erosion controls. Small surface area alone does not answer whether the project is part of a larger regulated development.

Will filling a void solve the problem?

Only if the underlying cause and structural condition support that approach. Filling can obscure an ongoing escape route or a defect that needs a different repair. Ask what evidence supports the proposed material and how the work will be checked.

Read the limits of foam injection and arrange an assessment before selecting a product.
