Start with your lake location, then confirm the parcel and county. A mailing address or nearby town does not decide shoreline permitting jurisdiction.

Jasper is the Walker County seat and an important starting point for owners on the southern side of Smith Lake. The lakefront address may still lie outside the city. Start with the parcel number and survey rather than assuming a Jasper postal address places the work under Jasper Building Inspections.
Cullman is the county seat and an inland service center for many Smith Lake owners. The county’s Smith Lake Park carries a Cullman address at 403 County Road 386, but a mailing name alone does not establish city jurisdiction. Locate the actual parcel before asking an office to review a wall, driveway or drainage change.
Arley lies in southeastern Winston County near Smith Lake and the eastern side of Bankhead National Forest. The surrounding wooded lake country includes coves and road approaches that do not share one simple access pattern. A community name helps orient a visitor, but the permit reviewer needs the individual parcel and shoreline work limits.
Double Springs is Winston County’s seat and lies within Bankhead National Forest near Smith Lake. It is a gateway to lake properties, not a claim that every address is waterfront. The useful planning task is to connect the county record, the private lot and any public land along the proposed route.
Crane Hill is an unincorporated community in southwestern Cullman County. Smith Lake and freshwater streams wind through its surrounding hills. That geography makes the individual lot more useful than a broad community label: the driveway, bank, lake access and nearby structures determine how a contractor can reach and repair the shoreline.
Curry is an unincorporated community in northeastern Walker County near Smith Lake, north of Jasper. Alabama Power’s Smith Lake office lists a Curry Highway address with Jasper as its postal city. This is a practical example of why mailing names, community names and the authority over a particular lot must be kept distinct.
Houston is an unincorporated Winston County community and a former county seat. The Forest Service’s Houston Recreation Area is on Smith Lake and provides a recognizable nearby lake reference. Private shoreline work remains a separate matter: recreation access does not establish a contractor route, a property boundary or permission to alter the bank.
Bremen is an unincorporated Cullman County community associated with State Routes 69 and 91. The broad mailing and community area is not a single waterfront subdivision. Give the assessor an exact shoreline pin and parcel number so access, county records and the proposed work all refer to the same property.
Atlas Alabama places Dodge City in Cullman County east of Lewis Smith Lake. A nearby town name is helpful for travel and deliveries, but does not establish that a property is within the town or even at the water. Start with the lake address and parcel before selecting a contractor or asking for a wall estimate.
Use Walker County records to separate an unincorporated lake property from Jasper city jurisdiction. Shoreline approval remains an Alabama Power matter.
