Which documents should you send the insurer?
Gather the declarations, complete policy and endorsements. Ask the insurer or licensed agent to identify the provisions that apply to the wall, retaining bank, dock and lift separately. Request a written explanation of the coverage decision.
This site does not decide coverage or promise reimbursement. Do not assume that protecting the house means the shoreline structure is insured under the same terms.
What damage record is useful?
- Dated wide and close photographs taken safely.
- Earlier photos and maintenance or repair records.
- The existing shoreline permit and approved drawings.
- The professional’s findings about observed damage and unresolved causes.
- An estimate that separates repair, upgrades and unrelated work.
- Communications with the insurer, including any instructions about inspection or disposal.
Keep originals. Describe what changed without guessing at a cause that has not been assessed.
Can a claim decision replace the permit?
No. Alabama Power approval and any other required review remain separate from an insurer’s decision. Contact the shoreline office before permanent work and ask how an urgent condition should be handled.
Confirm with the insurer what documentation is needed before damaged material is removed. For the construction budget, use the scope checklist without assuming the claim will fund every item.
