What should you check from stable ground?

Look for new leaning, fallen rock, exposed soil, a growing depression, damaged dock connections or water escaping in a new place. Keep people away from a cracked edge or undermined walkway. Treat damaged electrical equipment as a separate hazard for the appropriate utility or electrician.

Photograph the full shoreline and the affected area without climbing onto damaged structures. Save the date, rainfall context and available official lake-level information.

Was the main change at the bank or above it?

A rainstorm can reveal runoff arriving from the slope, drive or roof. A water-level change can reveal a previously hidden section. Ask the assessor to distinguish what is observed from what is inferred.

Do not immediately cover the evidence with soil or stone. Alabama Power reviews backfill and shoreline work, and sensitive areas can limit the method and timing.

Does storm damage waive approval?

Do not assume it does. Contact Alabama Power about the condition, immediate protection and permanent repair. Record any written instructions and keep the work within them.

If the scope involves land disturbance, ask about erosion controls and any additional environmental review. Use the permit guide and assessment checklist to prepare a concise record.
